Weapons

Jewels
Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. The quality of a diamond can be improved upon by the Jeweler, in stages that vary from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts will vary according to the tier that the jewel is at when it's inserted into weapons, jewelry, or gear.
All levels of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a sufficient level to be able to get them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with a jewel of the same kind without destroying the original one. You are able to replace the jewel only once in a piece of equipment.

Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment, however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.
These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't fighting. This allows the hero to be more effective when not active and also helps to compensate for the absence of a strong team or the absence of any talent tree slots which would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats.
A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats that you wish to upgrade, as it's often more beneficial to upgrade one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.
In the beginning of the game, players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their trinket into a red one, while top and mid players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.
In addition to the items listed above, players will find other trinkets in the form of trophies and rewards throughout the game.
